An information packed program using realistc injuries to prepare the participant with the confidence for a real first aid emergency

Course Summary

This Unit of Competence introduces participants to the skills and background knowledge to recognise/respond to life threatening emergencies using basic life support techniques until a more qualified first aider or medically trained person is available.This course conforms to the recommendations of the Australian Resuscitation Council, including the knowledge and skills to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

This course incorporates the content of: HLTCPR201A Perform CPR

Delivery

The duration to complete this course is 8 hours training and assessment via a face to face practical session.

Designed for those persons who:

are required to achieve only a basic level of first aid training
would like to learn basic emergency first aid information without the need to complete a more intensive learning program
may feel challenged by the amount of information/assessment requirements of a more detailed first aid program such as Apply First Aid (formerly senior first aid).

All of the content included in Perform CPR (HLTCPR201A) plus;
Basic anatomy and physiology
Severe bleeding & bleeding control
Absence of life
Choking/airway obstructions
Shock
Infection control
Airway management
Chest pain
Severe allergic reactions
The Chain of Survival
Calling for help
Understanding the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Own skills and limitations
Reporting and recording an emergency
General OH&S and legal issued
Awareness of stress management and support

Nationally Acreddited Certification on Completion

Statement of Attainment in HLTFA201A – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
Valid for three (3) years from the completion date

Prerequisites

Participants must be 14 years or older. See also HLTFA301B - Apply First Aid (formerly Senior first aid)
