Course Objectives

The risk of armed robbery increases when deterrent measures are inadequate or non-existent; when staff are not visible to people outside the workplace; when an offender can enter the business premises undetected; when staff at the point of sale cannot see other people in the workplace during opening and closing times; when a person is the sole staff member within the premises and during hours of darkness.

Research by the National Police Research Unit clearly shows that whilst the number of armed robbery offences committed against financial institutions in Australia has steadily decreased in the past decade, the number robberies at what can be described as soft targets is on the increase.
